My microphone is working properly, I have gone through all of the steps recommended by all of the apps and articles online. Multiple times. The microphone will work for 2 or 3 seconds and then stop working in both zoom and google hangouts. I used zoom several times earlier this week without any issue.

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. To be clear, the built in microphone is working and picking up sound, so these steps are not helping the issue. When using either zoom or google hangouts in meetings the mic will work for about 3 seconds and then will stop.

I've also followed these steps from the zoom support site, which are the same as what's linked to above. The same with the google hang out support advice.

I thought that an issue might have been with using audacity or presonus, which had me download ASIO audio interface, but both of those applications are picking up sound from the microphone. On those you choose between audio interfaces. On presonus, which I haven't opened in weeks, I made sure that the audio interface selected was windows audio just to be safe. Both of these applications are recording sound through the built in microphone, but still when testing the audio in zoom, it will pick up sound for about 2 or 3 seconds and then stop.

Hi, I have the same issue as Reed C I have tried all the suggestions you gave Reed, including re-installing Windows The only exception is going back to a System Restore point, which I can't do because I didn't have System Restore on I've turned it on now, though.

None of these fixes has worked. The microphone itself is working fine, it's just that no-one can hear me in Zoom or Skype. Double-click on your mic and you can edit a few options. For clarity, you can change the name from the generic Microphone on the General tab. On the Levels tab, you can adjust the input volume. Try raising this if it seems too low, or lowering it if your mic clips. Finally, on the Advanced tab, uncheck both boxes under Exclusive Mode.

This has solved mic problems for many people as it prevents one app from locking your mic. You can also adjust the Default Format above to select the input quality.

It is possible that you're facing the issue because you haven't enabled Microphone privacy settings in Windows For step by step instructions. The post also has other solutions which worked for users reporting about the same issue. My microphone will no longer work with Zoom. Now in red letters, it says microphone not detected in device, but the speaker works fine.

Then do a full update for the entire Surface by typing Update in the search bar and clickng on search for updates.

Restart PC to reinstall. When did this behavior begin? Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account.

Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly. Others are fixing USB mic and headset issues with Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account, because the account is corrupted and this is the only fix. This solves many problems and will also bring it up to the latest version which you need anyway and by the most stable method.
